KAITHAL: The Rajound police have arrested a woman accused of disposing of a newborn’s foetus found in bushes near Gyan Deep School on Rohera Road, Rajound, in August this year.

According to a complaint filed by local resident Manpreet Singh, on the morning of August 6, he spotted the foetus of a newborn girl lying in the bushes, being scratched by stray dogs. He immediately informed the police through Dial 112, following which a police team reached the spot.

A case was registered at Rajound police station, and during investigation led by SI Pawan Kumar, police arrested a 45-year-old woman from Panipat, who is the mother of a minor girl that gave birth to the foetus.

Police spokesperson said that an 80-year-old woman, Rajkali, had earlier been arrested in the same case. Investigation revealed that the 17-year-old minor girl, a resident of Panipat, was allegedly raped by a local youth and became pregnant. Her maternal grandmother, Rajkali, informed her daughter, who then called her sister-in-law in Rajound. The foetus was allegedly aborted and dumped in the bushes to destroy evidence.

The woman accused has been sent to judicial custody on the court’s orders, while further investigation is underway.
