PHAGWARA: Tension gripped the Banga area on Monday afternoon after a firing incident between two local groups left five youths injured, two of them critically. Senior Superintendent of Police Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar while confirming the incident told this correspondent late evening that according to preliminary police information, the confrontation appears to have stemmed from an ongoing rivalry between the groups. 

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Police, under their recently launched 'Operation Trackdown, have, in 11 days, arrested more than 3,000 criminals, said officials, adding that this has reinforced the state government’s firm commitment to ensure safety and dismantle organised crime syndicates.

PHAGWARA: An unidentified, partially charred body of a woman was discovered on Friday morning in farmland near Sultanpur Lodhi, triggering a police investigation into a suspected case of murder. According to reports received here today the incident came to light around 10:30 a.m. when Manpreet Singh, a resident of Sultanpur Lodhi and currently farming 11 acres of leased land belonging to Jagdeep Singh of Georgepur, visited the fields to inspect recently sown wheat.

PHAGWARA: Parvinder Kaur, mother of UK-based NRI Jaspreet Kaur, has alleged serious lapses in the police investigation after Punjabi singer Hassan Manak was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Thursday in a case involving allegations of fraud, bigamy and sexual assault. Speaking to reporters on Friday, she claimed that “neither did the police seek custodial remand nor did they attempt to recover crucial evidence,” expressing suspicion of foul play and urging authorities to ensure justice for her daughter. 

SAS NAGAR: Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, SAS Nagar district police has busted an interstate fake currency module with the arrest of two individuals from Dera Bassi and seized ₹9.99 crore counterfeit and demonetised currency from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Friday. 

AMRITSAR: In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar, in a joint operation with Counter Intelligence Pathankot, has busted a gangster module with the arrest of three operatives and recovered two .30 bore Star-mark pistols along with two magazines and 15 live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Friday. 

PHAGWARA: In a significant development, a local court on Thursday sent Punjabi singer Hassan Manak alias Hassan Khan to judicial remand of 14 days in connection with a case involving allegations of cheating, fraud, and sexual assault lodged by a UK-based NRI woman. The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate, Phagwara, who ordered his remand following preliminary interrogation by police officials. 

CHANDIGARH: In its ongoing crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today arrested ASI Ragwinder Prasad posted at police station kot Ise Khan district Moga. He was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a complainant, resident of tehsil Malout district Sri Muktsar Sahib. 

KAPURTHALA: : A Granthi Singh on his way to duty was brutally attacked and looted by three masked men dressed in Nihang attire near Sultanpur Lodhi on Wednesday. The assailants injured him with sharp-edged weapons before fleeing with his motorcycle, mobile phone and cash.
