PHAGWARA:Thousands of workers of the Youth Congress led by Acting President of District Youth Congress Harnoor Singh Harji Mann today observed the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘National Unemployment Day’ and burnt his effigy as a mark of protest.
The workers gathered at the local rest house and moved in the city by organizing a protest march. The workers carried effigy of the Prime Minister along with the placards with anti-Modi Government slogan. The effigy was burnt by the workers as a protest against the anti-people policies of the Modi government.

Once he was a permanent worker in the jute mill but, now as the mill is closed for the last four years, 38-year Mondal is left with no job. He has to rely on the daily sales of his handmade tea, biscuits and cake.

WASHINGTON: Initial unemployment claims in the US slightly dropped to 900,000 last week, after soaring to five-month high in the previous week, the Labour Department.
In the week ending January 16, the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits declined by 26,000 from the previous week's downwardly revised level of 926,000, according to a report released on Thursday by the Department's Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS).

WASHINGTON: The number of initial unemployment claims in the US fell to 803,000 last week, the first decline in three weeks, the Labour Department reported.
In the week ending December 19, the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits decreased by 89,000 from the previous week's upwardly revised level of 892,000, Xinhua news agency quoted a report released by the Department's Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS) as saying on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Joblessness continues to remain high in China despite the country clocking a gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 4.9 per cent in the July-September quarter. However, economic growth has not translated into jobs. The unemployment rate for the worlds second largest economy at 5.4 per cent in September has remained stubbornly high for months, though it is lower than 6.2 per cent in February this year.
