Two women killed over 15 injured in Guru Ravidas' Prabhat Pheri in Dhand .

KAITHAL: A Prabhat Pheri being taken out by followers of Sant Guru Ravidas turned into mourning when a speeding car crushed a group of devotees on Pundri Road in Dhand today early morning. In this heart-wrenching accident, two women died, while 15 to 20 devotees were seriously injured. According to eyewitnesses, devotees were crossing the road during Prabhat Pheri early in the morning as usual.

Then suddenly a car coming at high speed went out of control and entered the crowd. The collision was so severe that many devotees jumped and fell far on the road. There were screams on the spot and an atmosphere turned chaotic. Local people showed promptness and took the injured to Kurukshetra and nearby hospitals in ambulances and private vehicles. During treatment, Priyanka's daughter Ravindra (26 years) and Darshana Devi's wife Isham Singh (62 years) died. As soon as the news of death was received, there was an uproar among the family members and there was mourning in the entire village. In the accident, other devotees including Sonia (20), Sukhwinder Kaur (35), Mohanlal (41) resident of Dhand and Seema (27) resident of Sangatpura (Kaithal) and some others

were injured, some of whom are in critical condition. As soon as the information was received, Dhand police station in-charge Inspector Sunil Kumar rushed the spot with the police force and started relief and rescue operations. After the accident, people controlled the car driver on the spot, who was arrested by the police. The police have registered a case against the accused driver and started investigation. The villagers have demanded adequate compensation to the families of the deceased and proper and free treatment to the injured.
