Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda Appreciates Tethys Fossil Museum; Assures Visit again

KASAULI (HP)- Mr Jagat Prakash Nadda Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, interacted with Dr. Ritesh Arya near the Tethys Fossil Museum, Kasauli, during his visit to the region.

During the meeting, Dr. Ritesh Arya, Guinness World Record holder and Founder of the Tethys Fossil Museum, briefed the Minister about the scientific significance of the museum and its rare fossil collections that document the geological evolution of the Tethys Ocean and the up-liftment of the Himalayas. The discussion focused on the importance of geo-heritage conservation, promotion of geo-tourism, and strengthening geo-education in Himachal Pradesh.

Nadda appreciated the dedicated efforts of Dr. Arya in establishing the Tethys Fossil Museum and promoting scientific awareness and sustainable tourism in the region. He emphasized that greater public understanding of geology and environmental processes is essential for addressing the geological challenges faced by the state, including landslides, slope instability, groundwater stress, dam and tunneling-related issues, and climate-related vulnerabilities—particularly in the context of building sustainable
Highlighting the importance of integrating science with policy and development, Mr Nadda underscored that geo education and responsible geo tourism can contribute significantly to sustainable solutions and long-term resilience in hill states like Himachal Pradesh. He also assured that he would visit the Tethys Fossil Museum in the near future to witness the collections firsthand and further encourage initiatives related to geo-heritage preservation and scientific outreach.

Dr. Arya expressed gratitude for the Minister’s encouragement and support, noting that such recognition at the national level strengthens the mission of preserving India’s geological legacy and inspiring younger generations toward Earth sciences and environmental stewardship.
