PATIALA: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmit Singh Pathanmajra, who is currently under judicial custody in a rape case filed by his ex-wife, has been shifted from Patiala Central Jail to Bathinda Central Jail citing security concerns.
According to officials from the jail department, the transfer was carried out as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the MLA. Bathinda Central Jail is considered a high-security facility, housing several notorious gangsters and hardened criminals.
Pathanmajra was recently remanded to judicial custody by a Patiala court after his arrest in connection with the case. Authorities stated that the decision to move him was based on internal security assessments.
Meanwhile, the family of Pathanmajra has alleged that he was subjected to torture while lodged in Patiala jail. They have demanded an independent inquiry into the matter, raising concerns over his safety in custody.
The Sanaur legislator had earlier evaded arrest and reportedly travelled to Australia after the case was registered against him. He later returned to India and surrendered before authorities, stating his willingness to face trial.
The case continues to draw political and public attention as legal proceedings move forward.
