Haryana Agro Discom formation notification issued

CHANDIGARH: A third company, Haryana Agro Discom will work in Haryana along with Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam . The state government has issued a notification in this regard on Monday.

Power is currently being supplied in 10 districts by Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). According to the data of January 2026, 3 lakh 54 thousand 502 agricultural consumers of UHBVN and 3 lakh 62 thousand 712 agricultural consumers of DHBVN a total of 7 lakh 17 thousand 214 agricultural consumers will be transferred to the new Haryana Agri Discom.

The formation of a new company will change the functioning of corporations. 159 power purchase agreements (PPAs) will be shared among the three power companies. Cheap power will be given to agricultural discoms first. The new third power company will be transferred liabilities of Rs 5, 427.10 crores and these include 4578.59 crores of loan and 848.51 crores other liabilities.

About 3, 100 to 3, 600 employees will be required. These include 2 chief engineers, 8 superintending engineers, 20 executive engineers, 50 assistant engineers , 100 junior engineers, staff of 2000 to 2500 and 1000 staff in accounts wing. Employees will be transferred from existing power companies and transfer will be encouraged by providing promotion opportunities.

The objective of Haryana Agri Discom will be to provide uninterrupted and affordable electricity to the farmers. At present, the state government is providing cheap electricity to the farmers at the rate of 10 paise per unit. About seven thousand crores of rupees are provided as subsidies to farmers every year, which is a major part of the major functions of the third power company.

Haryana Agro Discom will handle agricultural feeders and consumers throughout the state. New tubewell connections, replacement of transformers and increase in power supply will be ensured. Uninterrupted and reliable power supply will be ensured to the farmers. The subsidy burden on the state will also be reduced.
