CHANDIGARH: All India Congress Committee General Secretary, former Union Minister and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja said that the figure of cancer victims has been increasing continuously in Sirsa district of Haryana, but there was no facility in Sirsa for its treatment. There was no hospital so here treatment of cancer was not available. The health department is confined to the patients till the issuance of bus pass and relief funds.
Patients travel 400 km from here for getting treatment in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. The state government will have to arrange cancer check-up and treatment in Sirsa at the earliest. This will also benefit cancer patients of Fatehabad. The negligence of the government is overshadowing the lives of cancer patients.
In a statement issued to the media, MP Kumari Selja underwent health check -up of three lakh people by departmental teams under the Population Based Screening (PBS) of the District Health Department, found a lot of cancer victims in the data collected. Sirsa has no facility for the treatment of cancer patients, for treatment, patients have to go out of the state far away. Hundreds of patients of the district arrive at Acharya Tulsi Cancer Hospital and Research Center and PGI Rohtak for treatment. Many cancer patients die due to lack of proper treatment. The MP said that according to an estimate, there are 5000 cancer patients in the district. The MP said that the main cause of cancer in the region was believed to be the use of poisonous fertilizer, pesticides and other toxic sprays. Along with this, the Ghaggar River also has a toxic remains being poured into from factors.
MP Kumari Selja has said that if we talk about farming, the chemical fertilizer, pesticides and other toxic sprays used in the fields have contaminated our wind and water, while these poisonous chemical elements have also directly affected our blood, our dosage and livestock. These toxic elements are also present in the milk of the mother today, which can be guessed that in the womb of the mother as they fall prey to these poisons which will remain throughout the age. It has been clear in a research that due to pollution caused by farming, people here are falling in the grip of cancer epidemic. Excerpts of chemical fertilizer and poisonous sprays being used in the fields are flowing with rain water and reaching the river-drains and contaminating the entire water. Today the situation has reached here that water has not been potable in many blocks.
Kumari Selja said that the number of cancer patients in the nearby area of Ghaggar river was more than other areas. In CM Sirsa, Baba has announced to open a cancer care center along with Baba Sarsainath Medical College under construction, but it may take many years to open, in which cancer patients cannot be left out of flaws. The MP said that not only Sirsa the number of increasing cancer patients in many districts of the state remained a matter of serious concern. The MP said that the government should investigate and treat cancer patients as soon as possible
