SONIPAT: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the regional entertainment industry, Haryanvi music model Sheetal, popularly known as Simmi Chaudhary, was found murdered and her body dumped in a canal in the Kharkhoda area of Sonipat district.
The 23-year-old, a resident of Panipat, had been working in Haryanvi music albums. Her throat was reportedly slit, and her body was discovered late Thursday night in the Reliance Canal near Khanda village. The Sonipat police reached the spot and took custody of the body, which was later sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
Confirming the incident, Sonipat ACP (Headquarters) Ajit Singh said, “We received information about a woman’s body floating in the canal. During the identification process, we linked it to a missing person report filed in Panipat for a woman named Sheetal. The investigation is ongoing.”
Earlier, Sheetal’s sister, Neha, had filed a missing person complaint at Matlauda Police Station in Panipat, stating that her sister had left for Ahar village on June 14 for a music video shoot but had not returned. Following the complaint, the Panipat police registered a case and began tracing her whereabouts.
DSP Rajbir Singh confirmed that Sheetal was murdered, and a team from Panipat has been dispatched to Sonipat to assist in the investigation. Police suspect that unknown assailants slit her throat before dumping the body into the canal, and are now working to identify the culprits and the motive behind the gruesome act.
The murder has triggered outrage and fear in the Haryanvi music and modelling circles, where concerns are now being raised about the safety and security of artists working in remote locations.
Police have assured that the case is being investigated with utmost seriousness. Authorities are examining Sheetal’s recent professional engagements and phone records, and have not ruled out the involvement of known persons.
The post-mortem report and forensic analysis are awaited. Meanwhile, security has been heightened in the area, and efforts are underway to track down those responsible for what police describe as a “brutal and calculated killing.”
