Around 40 villages in Amritsar district affected due to floods in Ravi

AMRITSAR: Due to the floods in the Ravi river, people in about 40 villages of Ajnala tehsil have been affected and the district administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sahni and District Police Chief Mr. Maninder Singh has started relief work again from 4 am today, in which apart from the civil administration , teams of police, army and NDRF are working continuously. On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rohit Gupta , SDM Amritsar Mr. Gursimran Singh Dhillon , District Revenue Officer Navkirat Singh , District Panchayat Officer Mr. Sandeep Malhotra are working tirelessly in the relief work with their respective teams.

These teams are using Army ATOR vehicles , boats and tractor trolleys to evacuate people from flood-hit villages and camps to safer places. It is estimated that around 14, 000 people have been affected by the floods.

It is worth mentioning that on the morning of August 27, the water broke through the Dhusi embankment and reached the populated areas. Yesterday, the entire day was spent in evacuating people from their homes and bringing them to safe places. Till late at night, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sahani , District Police Chief Mr. Maninder Singh , Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rohit Gupta continued working to evacuate people from the houses surrounded by water.

Today, August 28, at 4 am, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sahni and Additional Duty Commissioner Mr. Rohit Gupta left Amritsar again with their teams. Ramdas, where the convoy of vehicles used to go ahead till yesterday , has been blocked by water today. The vehicles were parked there and the officers and employees went ahead on tractors and the Deputy Commissioner accompanied the jawans under the leadership of the Additional Deputy Commissioner so that they could evacuate the people from their homes and take them to safety places.

Due to the efforts made last night, the army personnel also reached early this morning. They are trained to deal with such situations. Apart from this, ATOR vehicles , boats and cranes are working continuously in case of stuck vehicles. Currently, the work of bringing the people trapped in the water to safe places is going on and the Deputy Commissioner himself is leading it. The district administration has also arranged food for the people brought from the villages.
