PHAGWARA: Amid continuous rainfall and an alert issued by the Meteorological Department, Additional Deputy Commissioner Phagwara, Dr. Akshita Gupta (IAS), on Monday issued an advisory urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly through low-lying areas, temporary pathways, and katcha roads vulnerable to flooding.

Highlighting the rising threat from overflowing rivers, canals and drains, Dr. Gupta appealed to citizens to take basic precautions such as ensuring rooftops are free from water stagnation, reporting houses in weak condition to authorities, and shifting livestock to higher ground. She said people living in vulnerable pockets should remain cautious and keep essential items ready in case evacuation becomes necessary.

To deal with emergencies, the district administration has set up a 24×7 control room in Phagwara and activated a dedicated helpline number (01824-260794). Officials are closely monitoring flood-prone areas, while all village panchayats have been directed to remain on high alert. Relief and evacuation teams have also been kept on standby.

Assuring that the administration is working round the clock to safeguard lives and property, Dr. Gupta urged residents to cooperate fully with officials and strictly follow safety guidelines during this critical period.
