PHAGWARA: Under the directions of Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Amrit Kumar Panchal, the Health Department has intensified medical relief efforts in flood-hit areas of Kapurthala district.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajiv Parashar informed that four Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and 12 medical teams are providing on-ground health services in affected regions. To handle emergencies, two ambulances have been deployed in flood-hit areas while two more are stationed at SDH Sultanpur Lodhi.

Special medical wards have also been set up for displaced families — 12 beds at the District Civil Hospital, six at SDH Sultanpur Lodhi, and six at SDH Bhulath. In collaboration with the IMA, NGOs, and district administration, the department has distributed 200 mosquito nets. Adequate stock of essential medicines, including anti-rabies and anti-snake vaccines, has been ensured.

Medical teams are also reaching marooned villages in boats alongside SDRF units, with special focus on health check-ups for pregnant women.
Dr. Parashar urged residents to take preventive measures, including wearing full-sleeved clothing, drinking boiled water, eating freshly cooked food, and avoiding stale edibles. He added that while a few isolated cases of diarrhea have been reported, no cluster outbreak has been observed so far.

According to official data, the health teams have already examined over 4, 000 patients and provided medicines. Daily visits are being conducted in flood-affected areas to monitor the situation closely and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
