Police Register Cheating and Travel Fraud Cases of Rs 25.5 lac in Kapurthala and Phagwara

PHAGWARA: On a complaint lodged by the victim, the police have registered multiple cases of cheating, criminal breach of trust and violations of travel regulations in Kapurthala and Phagwara districts, following verification of allegations during preliminary inquiries.

On a complaint lodged by Guridal Singh, resident of Kapurthala, the police have registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13 of the Punjab Prevention of Travel Professionals Regulation Act. The complainant alleged that Bahadur Singh, resident of village Malkey under Police Station Lambra, district Jalandhar, and Devinder Singh alias Lucky, resident of village Kishan Singh Wala, district Kapurthala, cheated him of ₹15 lakh by taking money on false assurances. After inquiry found the allegations to be prima facie true, the case was formally registered and investigation is underway.

In a separate matter, on a complaint lodged by Deepak, resident of Mohalla Dharmkot, Phagwara, the police have registered a case against Ameer Chand, resident of the same locality. The complainant alleged that he was cheated of ₹5.25 lakh on the pretext of being sent abroad to Italy. Following verification of the complaint, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professionals Regulation Act.

SSP Gaurav Toora stated that investigations in both cases are in progress and assured that strict legal action will be taken against the accused if the charges are proved. The public has been advised to remain cautious while dealing with financial transactions and overseas travel agents and to verify credentials before making any payments.
