PHAGWARA: A 35-year-old man was found dead near the railway tracks in Phillaur on Saturday, with police suspecting a drug overdose as the cause of death. A syringe was reportedly found on his arm at the scene.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) took custody of the body and sent it to the Civil Hospital in Phillaur, where it has been kept for identification and further medico-legal procedures.
GRP officials said a bag containing some documents and instruments was recovered from near the body. Based on the documents found, the deceased was identified as Krishan Lal, a resident of Una district in Himachal Pradesh.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the death, and further action will be taken after post-mortem examination and completion of legal formalities.
