PHAGWARA: An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs near the Tibbi railway crossing in Phagwara on Saturday, once again highlighting the growing menace of stray dogs in the city and the apparent helplessness of the Municipal Corporation in addressing the issue. The injured child was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
The victim has been identified as Piyush Kumar, son of Vikas Kumar, a resident of the Tibbi area. According to the family, Piyush was playing with other children near the railway tracks when several stray dogs roaming freely in the area suddenly surrounded them. While the other children managed to flee, Piyush was cornered and attacked by the dogs.
Sharing details of the incident, Vikas Kumar said his son was playing near the railway lines with other children when a group of stray dogs appeared and chased them. “The other children ran away, but my son could not escape. The dogs attacked him and severely injured his face, ” he said.
Doctors at the Civil Hospital confirmed that the child suffered dog bite injuries to his face and required 10 to 12 stitches. The doctors stated that timely medical attention prevented further complications and that the child’s condition is currently stable.
