MOHALI: The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, University School of Physiotherapy & Radiology of Rayat Bahra University, organised National Nutrition Week 2025 under the theme “Nutrition for Prevention and Management of Lifestyle Disorders.”
The initiative aimed to create awareness about the vital role of nutrition in preventing and managing lifestyle-related disorders, emphasising healthy dietary habits and proactive health management.
The event was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Group Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. K. Bansal, whose visionary leadership inspired impactful, community-focused initiatives. Prof Dr Lalit Kumar Gupta, Dean, USPR, was the Organizing Chairperson, for the week-long programme.
The celebration was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr) Sanjay Kumar, Group Vice- Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University. In his address, he highlighted the importance of balanced nutrition and lifestyle practices for physical, mental, and emotional well-being, stressing that healthy dietary habits are essential not only for maintaining physical health but also for improving mental clarity and productivity.
The inauguration was attended by key officials including Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Gupta, Dean – USPR, and Dr. Pankaj Kaul, Dean – USAHS, along with faculty and staff members, showcasing strong institutional support for the initiative.
The event featured free health consultations for students and staff, including assessments of blood pressure, blood glucose, waist–hip ratio, and BMI.
Personalised diet consultations were provided by Kamalpreet Kaur Chahal, Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, ensuring participants received practical guidance on managing their health.
Interactive awareness classes educated students on healthy meal planning, dietary modifications, and integrating physical activity into daily routines.
At Rayat Bahra International School, Kamalpreet Kaur Chahal led a session on “Smart Nutrition Choices for Adolescents, ” educating students on the impact of nutrition on growth, academic performance, energy, and overall well-being.
Similarly, at the University School of Life Sciences, an interactive session on the “Importance of Healthy Diet for Adolescents” was conducted for undergraduate and postgraduate students, promoting dialogue on stress management, meal planning on a budget, and the link between nutrition and mental health.
