Khalsa College Public School Granted Sainik School Status by Centre Govt

AMRITSAR: Khalsa College Public School (KCPS) has become the only school in this region to get the status of Sainik School by the Government of India. The Union Ministry of Defence has identified 23 schools all over the country to be approved as new Sainik Schools and KCPS is one amongst those and only second in Punjab, said authorities.

The Khalsa College Governing Council honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said the new school, besides its affiliation to CBSE, will function as per rules and regulations of the Sainik Schools Society, New Delhi. He was elated that their school had been granted the prestigious status following rigorous inspections and visits by the experts from Delhi during the last one year.

While thanking Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other officials, he said the objective of this new Sainik Schools is to provide quality education to students in line with national education policy and give better career opportunities to youth in Defence Forces. “The whole of Punjab will be benefitted as students who clear the central level test, will be admitted in this Sainik School on merit”, said Chhina.

He added that in addition to their regular affiliated board curriculum, students will get physical training, special leadership classes on the patterns of Sainik School to serve the nation. KCPS Principal Amarjit Singh Gill said the school will be working as a model of existing Sainik Schools and will inculcate ethos of national spirit, indomitable courage, unfailing commitment and imbibe the importance of physical fitness.

He said the Centre government has aimed to set up 100 Sainik Schools in the country by involving credible trusts, societies, government and private schools to develop schools as per Sainik Schools' ecosystem. The school which will be known as Khalsa College Sainik Public School (KCSPS) will be governed as per norms of Sainik Schools Society under the Union Defence Ministry. The main focus of the school will be to create a system that combines academic rigour with a degree of discipline to provide increased focus on value-based education.

Gill added that the aforementioned initiative is expected to meet growing demand for Sainik Schools and provide effective physical, psycho-social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional and cognitive development besides qualitatively improving the youth entering the various walks of life.
