World Physiotherapy Day Observed with CME at Rayat Bahra University

MOHALI: The Department of Physiotherapy, University School of Physiotherapy & Radiology at Rayat Bahra University, in collaboration with ClearMedi Bahra Multi-Speciality Hospital, organised the 3rd Continuing Medical Education (CME) cum World Physiotherapy Day 2025. 

This year’s theme, “Healthy Ageing – The Role of Physiotherapy & Physical Activity, ” highlighted the vital role of physiotherapy in promoting mobility, independence, and dignity among the ageing population. 

The event was held under the guidance of Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Group Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. K. Bansal. Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Kumar Gupta, Dean, USPR, served as the Organising Chairperson and steered the programme. 

Nearly 300 students, faculty members, and dignitaries participated in the academic and community-driven event. The formal inauguration began with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Kumar Gupta, who shared the university’s achievements in international student enrollment, placements, outreach programmes, and the growing relevance of physiotherapy in public health. 

Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar, Group Vice-Chancellor, inspired students to integrate academics, research, and clinical practice to achieve excellence in healthcare delivery. Vivan Singh Gill, Cluster Head and Facility Director, ClearMedi Bahra Multi-Speciality Hospital, delivered a special address as Guest of Honour and launched Student Wellness Cards for RBU students. The initiative was appreciated by dignitaries and participants alike. Dr. Vikas Mehra, Orthopedic Surgeon, ClearMedi Bahra Multi-Speciality Hospital, also addressed the gathering as Guest of Honour. 

Chief Guest Harpreet Kaur Babla, Mayor of Chandigarh, commended the Department of Physiotherapy for organising a socially relevant academic event and emphasised the crucial role of physiotherapy in ensuring active and healthy ageing.

The highlight of the programme was the scientific sessions, where medical experts shared insightful lectures, offering clinical perspectives and holistic approaches to address the challenges of ageing. These sessions enriched the participants’ knowledge and underscored physiotherapy’s importance in healthcare.
