PU launches Nazariya 2025 festival; three-day documentary workshop marks opening

CHANDIGARH: Nazariya 2025, three-day workshop on documentary filmmaking started at Panjab University. The workshop is being jointly organised by the Departments of English and Cultural Studies, Philosophy and Sociology and being conducted by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Naval Preet Rangi.

Inaugurating the festival, Dr. Manmohan Singh, President, Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi, emphasised on the creative spirit of artistic practice and noted that an artist remains driven by an intrinsic restlessness. He highlighted the relevance of platforms that connect stage and screen, stating that documentary cinema continues to hold a significant role in shaping civil society.The workshop had an active participation of 29 research scholars participating from various departments of the university and other institutions.

The sessions are focused on practical training, discussions and screenings exploring the politics, purpose and practice of documentary filmmaking.Nazariya 2025 will continue till December 19 with events centred around theatre, film culture and interdisciplinary creative work, including film screenings and interactions with young filmmakers, stage artists, academicians and documentary practitioners from the region.
