MOHALI: Rayat Bahra University hosted a three-day National Workshop-cum-Hands-on Training on “Computational Aided Drug Design & Discovery”.
The event was organised by the University School of Sciences and brought together hundreds of participants, including students, research scholars and professionals from 10 different universities and colleges.
The workshop aimed to provide participants with practical exposure to modern computational tools that are transforming the field of drug discovery. Over three days, a series of technical and hands-on sessions were led by Dr. Pawan, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, Rayat Bahra University, with Dr. Sumesh Khurana providing essential support throughout the workshop.
The event commenced with an inaugural address by Prof. (Dr.) Satish Kumar, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University, who emphasised the growing importance of computer-based drug design in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
He highlighted the urgent need for interdisciplinary research, integrating biology, chemistry, and computational sciences to accelerate drug development.
The technical sessions began with an introduction to both traditional and modern drug design approaches. Participants learned about molecular representation, molecular descriptors, drug-likeness, virtual screening, and other essential components of Computer-Aided Drug Design and Discovery (CADD).
The workshop was held under the supervision of Dr. Manoj Bali, Dean, University School of Sciences, and concluded with a valedictory session and certificate distribution led by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Group Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra Group, who shared an encouraging and interactive address.
