AMRITSAR: Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET) today organized 8th annual athletic meet with the purpose to instill sportsman spirit among students and to enhance their physical and social skills. The event began with the Shabad Gayan followed by lamp lighting and flag hoisting by Dr. Manju Bala, Director, KCET. This was followed by a colorful march-past by the students of the college. Later there was oath ceremony in which students solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship.
Dr. Manju Bala, then lit the torch which ignited the inner sportsman’s spirit of students. She then addressed the students and said that sports, is a field that teaches us the most valuable lessons about perseverance, patience and perfect character. She underscored the importance of sports in daily life and overall personality development. She said that sports embodies the zeal, talents and leadership in the students. She added that a true athlete has a sound body and a sound soul. She gave more importance to participation than winning or losing a game.
The event included a number of races such as 100mt, 200mt and 400mt, Long jump, Shot-put and Tug of War for different categories. More than 600 students participated in the meet with full enthusiasm and zeal. The winners of the various events were awarded with trophies, medals and certificates.
Mausam Kumari (CSE-2nd Sem) was declared as best athlete amongst girls and Raj Kamal (BCA-2nd Sem) was best athlete among boys. Chess tournament was won by Mahesh Raina (CSE – 4th Sem). Tug of War was won by Department of Paramedical Sciences amongst girls and students of Engineering wing won the Tug of War amongst boys. Dr. Mohinder Sangita, Dr. Jugraj Singh, Dean Academics, Dr. Sandeep Devgan, Sports Coordinator, Dr. Sayal, Er. Karanbir Singh, Dr. Ripin Kohli and other faculty members were present on the occasion.
