Awareness campaign against plastic at DBU

MANDI GOBINDGARH: NSS wing of Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh organized an awareness campaign against use of plastic along with cleanliness drive on the campus.

Dr JK Sharma, Director, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) and Coordinator of the NSS wing of DBU, welcomed Dr Zora Singh, Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University, who was Chief Guest at the event.

Dr Zora Singh congratulated the NSS wing of the University for organizing such an awareness drive in the campus. He spoke on how plastic caused many negative effects on health and environment. He made the students aware about the benefits of a plastic free campus and told them how to keep surroundings clean and avoid diseases caused by plastic waste.

Dr JK Sharma emphasized on the need of cleanliness and the hazardous effects of the plastic on the environment. He spoke about use of disposable plastic, shopping bags out of convenience and ignorance of their seriously negative consequences. Plastic bags cause harm to the natural environment from the beginning to the end of their life cycle. So there was a need to stop using them, he added.

Dr JK Sharma said that the campaign was jointly conducted by NSS team, in which faculty and students from other Departments – Department of Social Science, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Ayurveda participated enthusiastically, and the students thoroughly enjoyed the activity.

Dr Davinder Sharma, Director of the School of Social Sciences, Prof Dharminder, Dr Ramanjeet Kaur, Dr Arshdeep Singh, from Department of Students Welfare, Oshina, School of Pharmacy, Gagandeep Kaur and Puneet Gill, S. Lal Singh School of Nursing and Ravinder Singh, School of Agriculture were also present.
