1740 Students Get Degrees at Khalsa College’s 117th Convocation

AMRITSAR: As many as 1740 students from various graduate and post-graduate classes were awarded degrees at historic Khalsa College’s 117th Annual Convocation, here today. Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) President Satyajit Singh Majithia during his convocation address stated that the technology in this new era is bringing new challenges and we need to find new solutions through academics and spiritual way of life.

Citing a number of examples, he said, life today is affected by the new innovations and technology, culminating into environmental, social and behavioral issues, which need specific focus. “You are embarking on a new chapter at a time that is not just consequential for your own lives, but also critical for the country and world. The accelerating rate of change by technology has brought global problems like climate change, gender equality and poverty”, said he.

He stressed that all must keep learning and growing as the learning does not stop after acquiring a degree. “To adapt to the challenges of a rapidly changing world, constant learning and unlearning is the only way. So keep learning and growing”, he emphasized. He congratulated students for ushering new life after obtaining the degrees.

Earlier in his presidential address, KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said the success and happiness depends more on attitude than on aptitude. “Thus, we must be persistent in the pursuit of success. Meaningful success takes time. So focus on the process. Do not be in a hurry to reach the destination, enjoy the journey”, said Chhina.

Principal Dr. Mehal Singh read the progress report of the College, citing the achievements of students in academics, cultural activities and sports. He said that under the able leadership of KCGC, the College had progressed beyond means and students excelled in annual examinations as well as in sports activities. Respectively on this occasion, two senior Professors including Prof Zorawar Singh and Dr. Balwinder Singh were awarded with the Best Teacher and Best Researcher Award. He also congratulated the students who got degrees, medals and meritorious certificates today.

KCGC Joint Secretaries SS Mannan, Ajmer Singh Heir, member Gurpreet Singh Gill, Dean, Dr.Taminder Singh Bhatia, Registrar Davinder Singh, Principal of various Khalsa institutions and senior faculty members were present.
