KAITHAL: Additional Sessions Judge Anupmish Modi has sentenced a father guilty of rape and POCSO Act to imprisonment till his last breath and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. In case of non-payment of fine, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment of one year. In the same case, another convict has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50 thousand.
In case of non-payment of fine, he will have to face a separate punishment of six months. The court has also ordered compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the victim through DLSA. DDA Jaibhagwan Goyal argued the case on behalf of the prosecution. Goyal told that in this regard, the father of the victim girl had lodged a report of the girl's disappearance in Guhla police station on 13 May 2023. He stated in the report that his minor daughter had gone away from home without informing him. They searched for him at many places but could not find anything.
The next day, police received information from Rajendra Hospital, Patiala that a minor girl, a victim of rape, was admitted here. On this, Durga Shakti Mahila police station in-charge Sudesh reached Rajendra Hospital Patiala along with the police team and recorded the statement of the victim girl. The girl told that her father had taken her to Ambala. There her father raped her several times. Her father also raped her in Kaithal and Guhla.
During counseling at CWC, the girl told that another youth Gurjant also raped her in April 2022. After the rape was confirmed, the police added sections of rape and POCSO Act to the case and removed section 365 IPC. The police arrested both of them, produced them in the court, made a challan and handed them over to the court. After hearing both the sides, the court found both of them guilty of rape and in its 62-page verdict sentenced the father till his last breath and sentenced Gurjant to twenty years' imprisonment. The father has been fined one lakh and Gurjant has been fined fifty thousand rupees. A total of 21 witnesses were examined in the case. The girl is currently in Nari Niketan while both the culprits are in jail.
