PHAWARA: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Kapurthala district police seized a total of over 285 grams of heroin in three separate incidents and arrested multiple accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In the largest recovery, ASI Lakhwinder Singh of Police Station Dhilwan, deployed at the High-Tech Naka, intercepted a black Splendor motorcycle (registration number PB-46-AM-4147) carrying three youths approaching from the Amritsar side. The riders allegedly attempted to evade the checkpoint but were swiftly stopped by the police. They were identified as Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh, son of Sahib Singh, resident of Ida, Police Station Sadar Tarn Taran, and Gurdevpal Singh alias Manna, son of Rajinder Singh, resident of Mahalla Manjit Nagar, Police Station Division No. 5, Ludhiana.

During the search, the police recovered 275 grams of heroin from their possession. Both accused were arrested on the spot, and the motorcycle was seized as case property. A case under Sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Dhilwan.

In another operation, ASI Manjit Singh of Police Station Kapurthala, acting on a confidential tip-off, arrested Lakhwinder Kaur alias Babbi, a resident of New Pind Bhattian. Acting promptly, the police team reached the spot near the village gate where the accused was seen discarding a small black-colored polythene packet into nearby grass upon spotting the police. The packet was recovered, and 4.94 grams of heroin was found inside. The accused was taken into custody, and an NDPS case was registered accordingly.

Meanwhile, ASI Juginder Singh of Police Station Sultanpur Lodhi arrested Vicky Kumar alias Kalu, son of Mangat Ram, resident of Fera Saida village, during routine patrolling. On conducting a personal search, police recovered 6 grams of heroin from his possession. He was arrested, and a separate NDPS case was registered against him as well.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora said the arrests are part of a sustained district-wide crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse. Further investigations are underway to identify the supply chain and other individuals connected to the network.
