AMRITSAR: Keeping in mind the possibility of rain in some parts of Punjab and adjoining states, the Meteorological Department today visited the area near the Ravi River, MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni.

They said that due to the release of water from dams during the rains, there may be some fluctuation in the water level of Ravi and Beas rivers. On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that at present the water in Ravi and Beas is completely under control and flowing in its creek, but due to the possibility of rain in the mountains, water has been released from the dams , due to which the water level may increase , so one should hesitate to cross the river. MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal also requested all the residents not to try to cross the river during this time and farmers and cattle breeders should not let their animals go on the river bank or inside the river.

The Deputy Commissioner said that in Amritsar district, there are 21 canals , ditches and drains in Ravi as well as uncontrolled water from Ujh river , hence a gauge is being installed at Ghonewal to check the exact water level. He said that the department has also been instructed to install gauges at differentcanals .

It is worth mentioning that till now the weather forecast from IMD is still showing possibility of heavy rains in Kathua , Gurdaspur , Samba etc. which will fill the gorges and ravines of the Ravi river.
