CHANDIGARH: Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Caste Morcha Punjab Vice President Paramjit Singh Kainth has termed the alleged use of police personnel for a “pre-wedding shoot” by a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab as a direct assault on democratic norms.
He stated that if the state police machinery has been deployed to enhance the personal image of an individual associated with the ruling party, it represents not merely an abuse of authority but a blatant example of institutional politicisation. He questioned whether the Punjab Police is meant to uphold law and order or to serve partisan publicity interests.
Kainth asserted that the police department is not a private instrument of any political party but a constitutional institution established to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. If, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the police is being reduced to a political tool, it signals a dangerous erosion of administrative neutrality in Punjab.
He demanded an immediate and impartial inquiry into the matter and called for strict legal action against any officers or political individuals found responsible. Institutional accountability, he said, cannot be replaced by rhetoric.
