AMRITSAR: Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj acting Jathedar of Akal Takht has demanded an impartial investigation should be conducted into encounter killing of 19-year-old Sikh youth Ranjit Singh from Aadian village in Gurdaspur, carried out by the Punjab Police.

Such incidents are causing serious harm to Punjabis and Sikhs from every aspect, and there is a need to reflect deeply on this issue. Killings of this nature—no matter who the victim is—are absolutely unacceptable.

He said that there must be the rule of law in the state. Courts exist to deliver justice; there should not be a rule of the police. Punjab is a land that believes in the welfare of all (sarbat da bhala), and such extrajudicial practices cannot be tolerated here.
