PATIALA: All PSPCL unions decided to launch a joint protest movement against the sale of power sector land and assets, against hurdles being created in the process of 2x800 MW units at Ropar, 4 new labour codes implemented by central government and against the provisions of the Draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2025. They decided with a unanimous call on the Government of Punjab to immediately withdraw these proposals.
Ajay Pal Singh Atwal General Secretary said that a joint meeting of PSEB Engineers’ Association , Employees Joint Forum, Bijli Mulajam Ekta Manch, Bijli Mulajam Snagarhsheel Morcha , Council of Junior Engineers, Association of Junior Engineers, IT Officers Association, Officers Accounts Association, Powercom Pension Union, Pensioners Association, Pensioner Welfare Federation, Grid Substation Employee Union participated to deliberate upon the issues being faced by the state power sector. Dr Darshan Pal and Angrej Singh Dakaunda from Samyukt Kissan Morcha also attended the meeting
It was stated that the Electricity amendment bill 2025 would adversely affect public ownership, consumer interests, and the long-term stability of Punjab’s power sector. They expressed deep concern that the sale of valuable PSPCL/PSTCL land will severely compromise future expansion of critical infrastructure such as substations, transmission corridors, and power projects. They also emphasized that the Draft Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 undermines the federal structure, weakens state utilities, and threatens the affordability and reliability of electricity for the general
They condemned the attempts to sabotage state sector 2x800 MW units at Ropar as these super critical units will ensure reliable power availability to the state. It was decided that power sector union leaders will participate in the meeting being organised by Samyukt Kissan Morcha tomorrow at Chandigarh and also in the national level meeting called by the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEE) on Sunday at New Delhi.
