A state level event of General Sham Singh Attari will be celebrated every year
ATTARI: 178th Martyrdom Day of the great general of Sikh community Sham Singh Attariwala was observed by the state government today at India Gate and Attari Samadh with full reverence and respect.
On the occasion of the state level martyrdom ceremony, Cabinet Minister of Punjab Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal was the chief guest and Mr. Jaswinder Singh Ramdas Constituency MLA Attari. On this occasion, at the monument of the great General Sham Singh Attariwala built at India Gate, Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, MLA Jaswinder Singh Ramdas, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghansham Thori, Colonel Kuldeep Singh Sidhu, Colonel Harinder Singh Attari paid tributes at the memorial of martyr Sham Singh Attariwala. On this occasion, the soldiers of Punjab Police also saluted the great general Sham Singh Atariwala by reversing the weapons.
After this, the Chief Guest Cabinet Minister Sh. Dhaliwal announced that the village of Mahan Jarnail S: Sham Singh Atariwala will be developed on priority basis. He said that this land is the land of great generals and the museum built here will be made bigger and pictures of great generals of Sikh history will also be installed in this museum. He said that today it is necessary that we tell our children about these generals, thanks to whom we are breathing freedom today.
S: Dhaliwal also announced to give 15 lakh rupees to the village from his discretionary funds.
He said that Sham Singh Atariwala has been a great general of the Sikh community whose martyrdom will be a beacon of light for the new generation. He said that martyrs do not belong to a family, they are the capital of the nation. He said that The bravery with which Sham Singh Atariwala fought the British forces on 10 February 1846 in the war of brothers is an example in itself. S. Dhaliwal further said that the Punjab government pays homage to the martyrdom of this great martyr who sacrificed his life for the nation.
Addressing the event at Attari, Mr. Dhaliwal said that he gave his martyrdom for the sake of Ankh, which was also appreciated by the British. He said that the martyrdom of General Sham Singh Atariwala became a source of inspiration for the coming generations, who breathed their last after the British rule was expelled from the country.
He said that Attari village will be given a new look so that the pilgrims who come to see the retreat can come to Attariwala's samadh and tell their children about his martyrdom.
He appealed to the people to participate more in such events and also make their children aware of history. Meanwhile, the dhadi groups also sang songs in memory of the martyr.
The religious Diwan was decorated after enjoying Sri Akhand Path Sahib conducted at Attari Samadh. The Kirtni Singhs sang Guru Jas and the Dhadi Jathas shared the story of General Sham Singh Attariwala's life and martyrdom with the congregation.
A large number of people arrived at Attari and offered flowers of devotion to the great general Sham Singh. On this occasion, Mr. Dhaliwal visited the museum located there. On this occasion he Sham Singh Atariwala's family members were also honored.
Cabinet Minister Dhaliwal said that the government of Mr. Bhagwant Maan Chief Minister of Punjab will celebrate this day at the state level every year.
