AMRITSAR: “Education is not merely the acquisition of knowledge, but the cultivation of values that enable individuals to live in harmony with themselves, society, and nature.”
While delivering the inaugural address in an Eight days workshop on “Universal Human Values: Understanding Harmony, Building Ethical Competence and Social Responsibility” organized by the Department of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University under the Centre for Agricultural Research and Innovation (CARI), funded by RUSA 2.0., Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor highlighted the significance of understanding harmony in nature, in existence. Drawing insightful references from various scriptures and supporting them with meaningful anecdotes, he effectively emphasised the timeless relevance of ethical values and moral wisdom in contemporary education and society. He encouraged the participants to embrace ethical and value-based education to foster an equitable and just society that ensures the well-being of all.
The universal human values is a key initiative of AICTE conceptualized in 2017 aimed at integrating human values and ethics into technical education across India, shifting the focus from purely skill-based learning to holistic development. Aligning with this initiative, the workshop aims to promote ethical competence, social responsibility, and harmonious living among educators, teacher trainees, and scholars, thereby strengthening value-based education.
