CHANDIGARH: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and his sin Raninder Singh to appear before it on February 12 in connection with a foreign assets case registered under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA). The central agency has also issued summons to his son in the same case.
However, Capt Amarinder Singh has sought a fresh date to appear before the agency, citing medical reasons. The former chief minister is presently admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali, where he has undergone knee surgery. His legal team has informed the ED about his hospitalisation and requested that his appearance be deferred until he recovers.
Sources said the ED is probing alleged foreign assets and related financial transactions linked to Capt Amarinder Singh and his family under the provisions of the erstwhile FERA. As part of the investigation, the agency has called both the former chief minister and his son to record their statements.
ED officials indicated that the request for a new date made by Capt Amarinder Singh is under consideration and that a fresh summons is likely to be issued after scrutiny of the medical documents submitted.
Capt Amarinder Singh, a former Congress leader who later floated the Punjab Lok Congress and is now associated with the BJP, has maintained that he will cooperate with the investigation once he is medically fit
