No single woman will go in the Sikh Jatha going to Pakistan on Baisakhi: SGPC Secretary

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan said that no single woman will go in the Sikh Jatha going to Pakistan on Baisakhi. The SGPC is not sending any single woman with the Jatha, we have stopped taking passports of single women.

The SGPC has taken this decision after the case of Sarabjit Kaur alias Noor Hussain, who had gone to Pakistan with a Sikh Jatha on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in November last year. After the visit, she did not return to India and later news emerged that she had converted to Islam and married Nasir Hussain, a resident of Pakistan.

The committee's chief secretary Manan appealed to the Sikh community that we should keep that faith when we go to visit the shrines in Pakistan. If someone commits a similar mistake as that lady did earlier, it brings disrepute to our country and nation. We have taken strict action because of this. Our efforts are still on to ensure that that lady comes here and punishes her.
