DC and SSP Amritsar arrived to take stock of the affected people riding on the tractor

More than 117, 000 people in the district have been affected by floods, three causalities
AMRITSAR: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni and District Police Chief Maninder Singh reached the worst-hit areas of Ravi, which are villages beyond Ramdas , today on a tractor to take stock of the people living there.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rohit Gupta, SDM Ajnala Ravinder Singh , Khushal Singh Dhaliwal , Secretary Red Cross Samson Masih and other officials involved in relief work were also with them.

. The said team walked barefoot in the water for several kilometers to reach the people living in villages and camps like Aaraya , Bauli , Mauli etc. They got to know the health condition of the people and assessed the damage done to their houses , outside , and livestock.

The Deputy Commissioner said that our teams, including doctors and veterinary experts, are deployed here all the time to help these people. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to those whose houses have been severely damaged to reach the relief camps especially so that there is no loss of life.

She said that these are the people who could not vacate their houses despite being surrounded by water due to protection of their houses or other needs. He directed the officials to take special care of the needs of these people.

Deputy Commissioner said that 140 villages of the district have been affected by floods , in which more than one lakh 17 thousand population has been affected. He said that so far three human lives have been lost in the floods. Apart from this, there have been reports of 6 cattle deaths , 73 houses collapsing , about 23 thousand hectares of crops being destroyed and agricultural machinery being damaged or swept away.

The Deputy Commissioner said that 16 relief camps are being run in the flood-affected areas , from where the needy are being provided with essential commodities and fodder for animals. Apart from this, medical teams are treating humans and animals here. He said that our efforts are to ensure that the damage caused by the natural disaster , although we could not save it, should not be caused by any negligence in the future. He also appealed to the people to call the district helpline number 0183-2229125 in case of any crisis so that they can be helped.
