Government of India Team Visits Flood-Affected Areas of Fazilka District

FAZILKA: A central team deputed by the Government of India to assess the flood-affected regions of Punjab commenced its visit today from Fazilka district.

Upon arrival in Fazilka, the team was accorded a warm welcome by Commissioner Manjit Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, and Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh. The delegation then conducted a ground-level assessment by visiting villages across the Sutlej Creek using boats.

The visiting team comprised Mr. Sudip Dutta, Under Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development; Mr. Laxman Ram Buldak, Director, Agriculture; Mr. Prakash Chand, Deputy Director, Ministry of Jal Shakti; and Mr. R.K. Tiwari, CEA, Ministry of Power. The members thoroughly reviewed the damage caused to crops, houses, and basic infrastructure in the district.

During the visit at village Noor Shah, Fazilka MLA Mr. Narinder Pal Singh Sawna briefed the central team about the prevailing local conditions. He emphasized that Punjab serves as the food basket of the nation and appealed for full support to the state in this challenging time.

The team also inspected the affected areas of Noor Shah, Ghurka, Kawanwali Pattan, and surrounding villages to evaluate the extent of losses.

Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu strongly presented the district’s case before the central delegation.

Among others present on the occasion were Director Agriculture Jaswant Singh, Superintending Engineer Gagandeep Singh Gill, Ranjan Dingra and osd power Narinder Mehta, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Mandeep Kaur, SDM Krishna Pal Rajput, Virpal Kaur, Kawarjit Singh Mann, Assistant Commissioner (General) Amandeep Singh Mavi, and Tehsildar Jaspreet Singh.
