PSPCL suffers loss of 46 crores , Dams across Punjab brimming to full

PATIALA: PSPCL suffered losses to the tune of Rs.46 crores as per initial estimate for damage to its infrastructures across Punjab due to floods in 12 districts. These include damaged distribution transformers, uprooted electric poles, and overhead transmission lines and flooded sub-stations. The maximum damage has been in the border zone amounting to Rs.25 crores.

Punjab’s worst floods in four decades, partially due to the Bhakra Beas Management Board decision to release excess water from Pong Dam and Bhakra Dam into Beas and Sutlej, Ranjit Sagar Dam releases in Ravi river, have caused damage to the power infrastructure in the state.

The central zone of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) alone has reported damages worth over Rs.8 crores as around 140 transformers were rendered non-functional, 225 electric poles were damaged and approximately 13 km of overhead electrical wires were affected.

During the last 2023 Punjab floods, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) faced significant infrastructure damage, including uprooted poles, damaged transformers, and flooded substations, impacting its power lines and equipment and resulted in an i estimate of Rs 16 crores in damages to infrastructure .

On Thursday the water level in all the three Dams is nearly up to brim. At Bhakra Dam the water level is 1678.97 feet , just one feet below the present water level limit of 1680 feet. The water releases from Bhakra is 85000 cusecs to ensure safety of Dam. The water level at Pong Dam is 1394.5 feet , which is 4, 5 feet above the limit of 1390 feet. The discharge from Pong Dam is 91000 cusecs. At Ranjit Sagar the level is 527 meters (1728.5 feet ) less by 0.9 meters ( 2.95 feet )from the limit of 527.91 Meters(1731.5 feet ). The discharge is 50000 cusecs.
