Rana Gurjit Singh launches aggressive campaign for his son contesting as an independent against Congress nominee

KAPURTHALA: Punjab Cabinet Minister Rana Gurjit Singh has launched an aggressive campaigning for the past two days for the his rebel son Rana Inder Partap Singh who is contesting election as an Independent candidate against the congress nominee Navtej Singh Cheema a sitting congress MLA from Sultanpurlodhi constituency of this district .

He started campaigning for this son from village Bussowal the native village of Navtej Singh Cheema on Jan21 and openly challenged the congress candidate to forfeit his security deposit and claimed that his son would be elected by the voters of Sultanpurlodhi due to the alleged misdeeds of congress MLA .

Talking to Punjab tribune today The Minister said he decided to campaign in favour of his son after the four congress nominees namely Sukhpal Singh Khaira , Navtej Singh Cheema, Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal and Avtar Singh had written a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi to expel him from the party for his anti party activities for his alleged interference in their constituencies .

He said it was his moral responsibility to favour his son and threw an open challenge to all the four congress candidates to come together and campaign against him in kapurthala segment where he is contesting election on congress ticket for the fourth time.

Replying to a question on the reaction of the party high command for campaigning against the congress candidate Navtej Singh Cheema , Rana said he has not yet received any show cause notice from the party high command adding he is also writing to Sonia Gandhi to expel Sukhpal Singh Khaira from the party and change the party ticket from Bholath constituency as khaira has been charge sheeted in a money laundering case by ED and lodged in judicial custody.

Rana today campaigned for his son at village Jarjpur, Alldad chak and Farid Sarin falling in Sultanpurlodhi constituency. He showed the huge gathering in a small village Jarjpur to PTI on his face book account and gathering was seen raising slogans in favour of his son Rana Inder Partap Singh.

It is pertinent to mention here that Four Punjab Congress leaders on Jan 18 shot off a letter to party's national president Sonia Gandhi, seeking Rana Gurjeet Singh's expulsion from the party while alleging that he is "weakening" it in several segments of Doaba region ahead of the Assembly polls.

The letter came after his son Rana Inder Pratap Singh decided to contest as an Independent from the district's Sultanpur Lodhi after the Congress fielded sitting MLA Navtej Singh Cheema from the constituency.
