PHAGWARA: A shocking incident has come to light from the Santanpura locality of Kapurthala, where a Punjab Police Sub-Inspector (SI) allegedly attempted to run over a woman with his car following a confrontation on July 30. The entire episode has reportedly been captured on CCTV footage and is now under police investigation.
According to the victim, Gurpreet Kaur alias Preeti, she was leaving her home on a scooter when she was called to a nearby plot by SI Baljeet Singh, who is currently posted at a police station in Jalandhar. Upon reaching the location, she found Baljeet Singh and another person, identified as Nishan Singh, allegedly consuming alcohol.
Kaur alleges that SI Baljeet Singh made lewd remarks toward her. When she protested, he threw a glass filled with liquor on her face. Disturbed by the incident, she immediately contacted the City Police Station in Kapurthala to report the assault.
Before the police could arrive, the two men attempted to flee the scene in a car bearing registration number PB09 T 0862. When the woman tried to stop them, the vehicle was allegedly driven at high speed in an apparent attempt to run her over. She sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital. Her four-year-old son, who was with her at the time, narrowly escaped harm.
In a further allegation, the woman stated that she had previously been in a live-in relationship with a police inspector, now deceased, and that SI Baljeet Singh had since developed an inappropriate interest in her. She claims that Singh had been harassing her for some time.
Attempts to contact SI Baljeet Singh for his version of events were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepkaran Singh confirmed that both parties have submitted written complaints and that an investigation is underway. “Appropriate action will be taken once the inquiry is complete, ” he stated.
