CHANDIGARH: All the six Pong Power House units are running round the clock in a bid to utilise stored water on the reservoir as the water level in Pong Dam reservoir is increasing sharply due to heavy rainfalls in Himachal.
As per Northern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (NRLDC) daily report, Pong Power House generated 85.2 lakh units on Sunday and Pong Dam the water level is 1366.5 feet against last year's level of 1334.5 feet on corresponding day. In the last five days the water level has increased by 12 feet. At the start of the filling season water level was 1288.5 feet. At Pong Dam the filling can be done up to 1390 feet. At Pong Dam the inflow is 65000 cusecs with outflow of 18560 cusecs. The margin left for the danger level filling level is 23.5 feet.
At Bhakra reservoir today water level is 1625 feet against last year's level of 1630.74 feet, an increase of 9 feet in the last five days. Last year the water level on the corresponding day was 1611.3 feet. At Bhakra Dam the maximum storage limit followed by BBMB is 1680 feet. The inflow at Bhakra reservoir is 58000 cusecs and discharge of 16200 cusecs. There is still a margin of 55 feet for maximum permissible level. The generation on Sunday at Bhakra power houses was 171.3 Lakh units.
At Ranjit Sagar Dam the water level is 515.4 meters against last year's level of 493.42 meters, above by 22 meters. The water inflow at Ranjit Sagar Dam is 48600 cusecs and discharge is around 10000 cusec . The generation on Sunday was 60 lakh units.
After more than normal rainfall in June and July in Himachal Pradesh now the weather department (IMD) has made a forecast that the second half of the southwest monsoon season is expected to deliver above-normal rainfall exceeding 106% of the long-period average from August to September.
