PHAGWARA: In a disturbing incident that unfolded during the intervening night of August 1 and 2, unidentified assailants opened fire outside a residential property in the Pallahi Gate area of Phagwara. The house targeted belongs to Aman Basra, son of Kuldeep Ram, a resident of Street No. 17 in the locality.

According to the information gathered, the attack occurred shortly after a heated telephonic altercation reportedly took place between Kuljit Basra, Aman’s brother, and an individual identified as Atish, alias Ghora, also a resident of Pallahi Gate. Based on the complaint lodged by Kuljit Basra, local police have registered a case under FIR No. 188 at Police Station City Phagwara.

SHO city Usha Rani told here this morning that The FIR has been filed under sections 109, 333, 191(3), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 25 of the Arms Act, 1959. The named accused include Atish alias Ghora and Rahul Sahota alias Khan, son of Ashwani, both residents of Pallahi Gate, in addition to four unidentified individuals. The complainant alleges that the group entered the family’s residence during the night and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported. Police authorities have confirmed that no occupants of the house were harmed during the incident.

While investigating officers have begun examining the circumstances leading to the gunfire, sources within law enforcement suggest that the incident may be linked to pre-existing rivalries. Preliminary inquiries indicate that Aman Basra and his siblings are known to have associations with criminal elements, raising the possibility of retaliation or rivalry as a motive behind the attack.

As of now, no arrests have been made. The local police have initiated further investigation to identify the unknown assailants and determine the exact sequence of events. Law enforcement officials have assured that all angles, including possible gang-related conflict, are being explored with due diligence.
