CHANDIGARH: In a noteworthy initiative towards environmental preservation, the State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, has launched a Tree Plantation Drive titled “Each Tree - A New Beginning” on the occasion of World Environment Day. This noble campaign was being conducted under the esteemed guidance of Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), and the visionary leadership of Mr. Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
As part of this initiative, State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), U.T., Chandigarh commenced the plantation-cum-awareness drive and sanitation drive on dated June 5. Under this campaign, a plantation-cum-awareness drive was conducted by Panel Advocates and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of this Authority. Under the tree plantation drive, 434 saplings were planted at multiple locations such as Government Model School, Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, Chandigarh, Community Centre, Burail, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Daddu Majra Colony, Chandigarh and Government High School, Ramdarbar, etc.
The primary objective of organizing this program was to make general public and students aware about the various environmental issues and to preserve the rich heritage of our flora and fauna. All the persons present were apprised about the need to protect our environment and volunteers from the gathering present on the occasion were also given the responsibility to take care of each plant and in this manner, they were motivated to do their efforts to protect the environment.
They were also told about the working of the Authority including its aims and objects. This campaign will continue till the fourth week of July, 2025.
