AMRITSAR: Guru Nanak Dev University has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prof. (Retd.) H.S. Virk to establish a distinguished lecture series named “Prof. H.S. Virk Lecture Series in the Interdisciplinary Areas of Scientific Research and their Impact on Society” by eminent scientists and academicians for the young researchers and students. Under this agreement, Prof. Virk has instituted endowment funds of Rs. 1.5 lakh to the University for the implementation of the lecture series for a duration of five years, aiming to promote interdisciplinary scientific research for societal benefits.
The MoU was signed by Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University, in the presence of Prof. K. S. Chahal, Registrar; Prof. H. S. Saini, Dean Students’ Welfare; Prof. Dalbir Singh Sogi, Dean, Faculty of Sciences; Prof. Navdeep Singh Sodhi, Coordinator, University Industry Linkage Programme; Prof. Aman Mahajan, Head of the Department of Physics and Dr. Bindiya Arora. A selection committee has been constituted to oversee the programme, comprising the Registrar, Dean Faculty of Sciences, Head Department of Physics, Dr. Bindiya Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics and Dr. D.P. Singh, Director, Acoustics Research Centre, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh said "Such lecture series will foster interdisciplinary research, inspire innovation, and highlight the profound impact of science on society." Speaking on the occasion, University authorities appreciated Prof. Virk’s gesture and vision in strengthening scientific culture at GNDU by providing a vibrant and responsible link between students and subject experts. Prof. Aman Mahajan said, this MoU will extend support in organising lectures and seminar to provide exposure to students about the cutting-edge research being carried out by leading scientists across the globe.
