LUDHIANA: To celebrate the 'World Water Day', College of Dairy Science & Technology of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana holds an international webinar on ‘Water Footprint Analysis in Dairy Sector’.
Three distinguished speakers Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Principal Environment Scientist from Chicago, USA; Dr. Ranvir Singh from Massey University, New Zealand and Dr. Neelkanth Nirmalkar from IIT Ropar delivered their talks on different aspects of water. Around 100 participants were participated in webinar. Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GDAVASU appreciated that College of Dairy Science & Technology took a lead in organizing this webinar by involving leading international experts and hoped that this will be having a great bearing in creating the sensitivity towards meticulous water utilization, water productivity vis-à-vis environment sustainability of dairy sector.
Dr Kuldeep Kumar talked about 'Water/Energy/Dairy Nexus for Regional Sustainability and Resilience' and he shared a new concept that in many regions including Punjab, we have already crossed the stage of water sustainability, our approach should be for regenerative rather than sustainability. He was recently awarded ‘The Ralph Fuhrman Medal’ by international ‘Water Environment Federation (WEF)’ for his innovative work in the area of waste water treatment technology.
Dr Ranvir Singh spoke about ‘Water Footprint- Methodological Developments & Potential Applications’ in which he discussed about the water foot printing concept and linked it with our daily usage like serving pasta or to produce a shirt that everyone wears in our daily life.
Dr. Neelkanth presented his innovative research on Nanobubbles technology and its applications in agriculture, fisheries and dairy sector. It has great potential for its industrial applications not only in water treatment but also in food processing and preservation, particularly in dairy industry, as it’s also a cost effective technology.
Dr J.P.S. Gill, Director of Research in his concluding remarks expressed his gratitude to the experts for their excellent talk and knowledge sharing and hoped that soon GADVASU will explore the possibility to work in collaboration with these international and national organisations for the judicious use of water in livestock sector.
