Inter-State Folk Dance Artists Mesmerizes Audience at Khalsa College

AMRITSAR : The audience was spell-bound as the artists performed during the Inter-state folk dance competition organized by the Department of Youth Welfare, Khalsa College at the campus here. The program was organized under the government of India Inter-State Youth Exchange Program, said Khalsa College Registrar Dr. Devender Singh who is also Dean, Youth Welfare.

He said the Gujarat state department of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities, Gandhi Nagar, organized a tour of Gujrati Folk Dancers in Punjab which was coordinated by Punjab Folk Art Centre, Gurdaspur. In overall seven dances from Punjab and Gujrat gave mesmerizing performances at the main hall of the college.

Director Youth Welfare, GNDU, Dr. Amandeep Singh honored the dignitaries and the dances on this occasion and said such inter-state cultural exchanges programs strengthen the process of nation building. Hitesh Dihora, leader of the Gujarati contingent gave information about the different dances of Gujarat which were performed like Maniyaro Raas, Garba, Rope Raas and Utsav Raas.

The judges of the competition judged Punjabi Jhumar performed by the students of the Khalsa College as the best dance. Principal Dr. Mehal Singh while welcoming the performers from Gujrat observed that such cultural exchange programs enrich the students culturally. He also congratulated the participants and the winning teams.

Harmanpreet Singh, Director Punjab Folk Art Centre said Khalsa College was the right place to host the festival. Dr. Surjeet Kaur, Head, Hindi Department conducted the stage. Dr. Deepak Devgan, Deputy Registrar, Dr. Harjeet Kaur, in charge of the Giddha team and Dr. Randeep Singh, in charge of Bhangra Team was also present on this occasion along with other faculty members and the organizing team of the function.
