PHAGWARA: A case of alleged abduction of a minor girl has been registered in Sultanpur Lodhi following a complaint by a former village sarpanch, raising concerns over the safety of minors and possible coercion under the pretext of marriage.
According to the complaint filed by Kamlesh Rani, her minor granddaughter, had been residing with her for the past few months. The girl had been engaged in learning tailoring in the area. On the intervening night of March 13 and 14, 2026, she reportedly went missing without informing family members.
The complainant stated that despite continuous efforts to locate the minor, her whereabouts remained unknown. She further alleged that Ajay Kumar, a resident of village Jastarwal in Amritsar district, along with his family members and an associate, may have lured the girl and taken her away. The complaint suggests that the accused allegedly enticed the minor under the pretext of marriage.
Based on the statement, the police have registered a case under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366A (procuration of a minor girl) of the Indian Penal Code. Authorities have initiated an investigation and are working to trace the missing girl and verify the allegations.
Officials stated that all angles, including inducement and possible coercion, are being examined, and appropriate legal action will follow based on the findings. The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of minors and the need for vigilance within communities.
