Vigilance Bureau nabs Tehsildar red handed taking Rs 20,000 bribe for land registration

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has apprehended Sukhcharan Singh, Tehsildar, posted at tehsil Tapa in district Barnala red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 20, 000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the VB said the above mentioned officer has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Amrik singh, a resident of village Beehla, in district Barnala.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that his friend Harbhajan Singh, of village Maur Nabha, in Barnala district had to get registration of 2 canal 4 marla of agricultural land from the said Tehsildar but he was demanding a bribe of Rs 20, 000 from complainant.

He further added that after verification of this complaint the VB barnala unit laid a trap during which the above said Tehsildar was arrested red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20, 000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The bribe amount of tainted money has also been recovered from the account.

In this regard a case has been registered against the accused under prevention of corruption act at VB police station Patiala range and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
