CHANDIGARH: Blaming the Aam Aadmi Party government for the unchecked surge in crime and violence across Punjab, former Education Minister and MLA Pargat Singh on Sunday demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, holding him directly responsible for the collapse of law and order in the state.
Pargat Singh said the alarming state of affairs has crossed all limits, warning that “the situation is slipping out of the government’s hands completely — people now live in constant fear while gangsters call the shots. Punjab has never witnessed such an atmosphere of lawlessness in recent years.” He added that the government’s failure to protect its own citizens amounts to a total betrayal of public trust.
Citing recent gruesome incidents, Singh highlighted that in the past 48 hours alone, two young political leaders have been shot dead in broad daylight. “Today, during a wedding function in Amritsar, Jharnail Singh, former AAP sarpanch from Valtoha, was brutally gunned down in front of scores of people. Just yesterday, Congress leader Umarseer Singh was ambushed and riddled with over twenty bullets while traveling in his car near village Bhindarkalan, Moga, ” he said, condemning the killings as a “complete breakdown of governance and policing.”
Pargat Singh said that if people can be assassinated even during social gatherings, it clearly proves that criminals no longer fear the law — a direct outcome of the ruling party’s incompetence and indifference. “From villages to cities, extortion, gang wars, and contract killings have become routine. Punjab’s peace, hard-earned over decades, stands shattered under this AAP regime. Every household today lives under the shadow of fear, ” he stated.
