PHAGWARA: Under the Punjab Government’s ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, while actions have been taken against drug traffickers, the Kapurthala District Administration has initiated a unique step for the rehabilitation of drug victims undergoing treatment at de-addiction centers by launching a “ Skill Training “ Program for them.
Inaugurating the 12-day skill training program at the Navjeevan Kendra in Civil Hospital Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said, “The aim of the district administration is to empower victims with skills for employment so that they can lead a dignified life and contribute to society’s progress.”
Deputy Commissioner interacted with the victims and gathered information about their treatment. He assured them that the district administration has made adequate arrangements for their treatment and employment.
He further stated that the 12-day course in fast food preparation would be conducted at Navjeevan Center with the assistance of the District Employment Bureau and Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI).
After completing their treatment, victims will also be supported in establishing self-employment opportunities.
Deputy Commissioner also announced that additional skill-based courses would be introduced as needed under the training program.
SSP Gaurav Toora Toora highlighted the positive outcomes of the actions taken against drug traffickers, which have disrupted the supply chain. He noted that in the second phase, programs for the treatment and rehabilitation of victims have been initiated.
District Employment Officer Dr. Rajan Sharma, District Placement Officer Dr. Varun Joshi, and RSETI Director Pravesh Chadha explained that under the ‘Micro Enterprise’ initiative, experts will provide training on preparing various fast food dishes and their marketing.
