AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami today listened to the problems of the people in the flood-affected areas of Ramdas and Dera Baba Nanak constituencies bordering the Ravi River and personally went to the villages and distributed relief material on behalf of the Shiromani Committee for basic needs.

While the services of langar and essential items are already continuing continuously by the Gurdwaras under the management of the Shiromani Committee in these areas, today the Shiromani Committee President had specially come to share the suffering of the flood victims and he reviewed the ongoing services. The relief material sent by the Shiromani Committee from Langar Sri Guru Ramdas Ji to Dera Baba Nanak constituency today included 150 quintals of flour, 30 quintals of pulses, 5000 boxes of water and other essential items. Similarly, two trucks of relief material were also delivered to the people in Ramdas area.

Talking to the media on this occasion, Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the situation in many areas of Punjab has become pathetic due to floods. While people have suffered huge financial losses, their daily lives have also been badly affected.

Advocate Dhami said that the Sikh organization Shiromani Committee considers it its duty to stand with the people in times of trouble and is committed to providing all possible assistance.

He said that although in view of the flood situation, accommodation, langar and other necessary arrangements had already been made in various Gurdwaras and now Shiromani Committee employees are reaching out to the victims and rendering services. The Shiromani Committee President said that at present the government has completely failed. He said that the government itself should not have provided relief to the people, but even the people engaged in relief work are not being given any kind of support.

He said that the SGPC administrators had requested the government for boats to carry relief materials to the victims, but the government did not cooperate in any way.

The SGPC President expressed his commitment that the necessary services will continue to be provided by the SGPC till the end of this disaster. Advocate Dhami said that a committee will be formed by the SGPC, which will inspect the affected areas and report back, so that possible assistance can be provided to the victims. He appealed to the devotees to contact the administrators of the nearby Gurdwaras for assistance as per the need.

SGPC President also met the BSF jawans staying at the Gurdwara Sahib.

Meanwhile, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami also met the BSF jawans on duty at the border who are staying at Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib Dera Baba Nanak due to floods and listened to their problems.

Advocate Dhami said that these jawans are on duty at the border to protect the country, whose residential areas have also been affected by the floods. He said that it is the duty of governments to help every common citizen and make arrangements as per their needs, but here the governments are not considering it appropriate to take care of their jawans as well.

He said that the SGPC will ensure arrangements as per the needs for these jawans as well.

Advocate Dhami said that there are many such areas where people are not being reached due to overcrowding. He said that if the administration arranges boats, the SGPC will provide assistance to the needy in these areas. He said that keeping in mind the need of the hour, the Shiromani Committee itself will also arrange for boats in the coming time, so that the needy can be reached quickly in times of trouble.
