SGPC delegation to soon meet home minister for release of Bhai Rajoana: Advocate Dhami

AMRITSAR: A meeting of the Dharam Prachar Committee chaired by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami demanded release of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana and other Sikh prisoners from the Government of India.

Advocate Dhami has strongly condemned the printing of cigarette advertisements inside the packets of offerings given to the sangat at Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

Speaking to the media after the gathering, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the Government of India had announced release of Sikh prisoners on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji but the government has not implemented its decision till date. 

He further said that an appeal was filed by the SGPC in the Supreme Court in September 2020 for commutation of the sentence of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. . Due to the government's procrastination, the Supreme Court had given two weeks in January 2021, while in February 2021, the government had asked for another six weeks. 

He said that despite the lapse of nearly one year, the government has not been able to take a decision yet. 

The SGPC President said that letters have already been written to the Home Minister in this regard and now he has again written a letter asking for time to meet the Home Minister as a delegation.

 Advocate Dhami said that during the meeting with the Home Minister, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, the release of other Sikh prisoners including Davinderpal Singh Bhullar as well as other Sikh issues will be discussed.

The SGPC President also said that the booklet released by Prime Minister Mr  Narendra Modi at the inauguration of Vishwanath Dham Corridor recently distorted Sikh history which was objected to by the SGPC. 

 He said that according to the information received, some parts of this book have been removed.

 He said that in today's meeting a demand has been made to withdraw the book.

Advocate Dhami said that during the meeting with the Home Minister, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, The release of other Sikh prisoners including Davinderpal Singh Bhullar as well as other Sikh issues will be discussed.

He said that this incident has deeply hurt the minds of Sikh devotees.

He demanded the President of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and the Government of Pakistan to take stern action against the culprits.

Discussions were held in the gathering to expedite the Dharam Prachar movement and the work of various departments of the Dharam Prachar Committee was approved. Dharam Prachar Committee member Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhayasi, Sukhwarsh Singh Pannu, S. Avtar Singh Vanwala, Manjit Singh Bappiana,   Apart from Rampal Singh Bahiniwal, Interim Committee Member  Gurinderpal Singh Gora, Secretary Mahinder Singh Ahli, OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, Additional Secretary Partap Singh, Sukhminder Singh, Deputy Secretary Simarjit Singh Kang, Tejinder Singh Padda, Superintendent Malkit Singh Bahirwal etc. were present.
